Our Powder Story

Generations of families have used JOHNSON'S® Baby Products to care for their children, but the earliest products of Johnson & Johnson were medical products. So how did we become known as "The Baby Company?" Believe it or not, we owe it to the fact that Johnson & Johnson made medicated plasters. Some patients who used medicated plasters stated that some of the plasters irritated their skin. In response, Scientific Director Fred Kilmer sent them small containers of Italian talc to soothe the irritation. These patients discovered that the talc also helped alleviate diaper rash, and as a result, JOHNSON'S® Baby Powder made its debut in 1893, and the Johnson's baby product business was born.

Pure Talcum:

• The classic JOHNSON'S® BABY POWDER is made from a natural mineral called Talcum (Talc), the softest known mineral on earth.
• The talcum in our powder has two very unique properties (1) to repel unwanted moisture, and (2) to absorb excess moisture, especially in humid conditions, helping to make your skin feel cool and comfortable without overdrying.
• Talc also creates a smooth barrier on the skin, helping to protect from wetness and friction, which is especially comforting in baby's diaper, and under your own clothes!
