Caring For Your Circumcised Baby Boy
Based on content from the baby care experts at JOHNSON'S®
If your baby boy was circumcised, there are specific steps you should take to prevent infection, speed healing, and lessen your baby's discomfort.
For the first 24-36 hours after circumcision:
Your pediatrician may advise you to periodically apply small icepacks to the tip of the penis. This decreases bleeding and oozing, reduces swelling, and lessens your baby's discomfort by numbing the area.
For the first four days after circumcision:
Always wash your hands with soap and water with each diaper change to avoid contamination. Put a generous amount of petrolatum onto a clean gauze pad, such as a Johnson & Johnson First Aid Gauze Pad. Place treated gauze pad over the tip like a tent. Cleanse newly circumcised penis with clear water for the first three to four days.
For the next two days:
With each diaper change, stop using gauze, but apply petrolatum directly to the tip of the penis. Circumcision usually takes a week to ten days to heal completely.
